Where did you grow up: Dallas
What is your favorite part of being an instructor: Exercise is just as important for our minds as it is for our bodies. it's not always easy for people to take even 50 minutes to move and sweat, away from work, family, cell phones, and email. So, I love that I get to play a role in that part of my clients' day -- the part that gets to be all about them. Its great to see them having fun, challenging their bodies, feeling better and getting stronger.
Why do you love the Megaformer: The Megaformer workout is great on it's own and it's also an amazing complement to other physical activities and sports. I also teach and love practicing yoga, and I knew the Megaformer was a game changer when I witnessed my yoga practice getting stronger (chaturangas only take you so far). My husband loves road biking, and now that he comes to class, too. He's seen a huge difference in his strength and endurance on the bike.
Favorite Megamove: Man, so many, but I really like anything for the glutes! I love Mega Donkey Kick...but I rarely teach a class without using that bungee ;)
What three things can’t you live without: My husband Ross, my dog Patti Mayonnaise (you can catch her at the studio sometimes!), and then it's a tie between wine and caffeine (probably some kind of correlation there...)
How long have you been in the fitness industry: About a year and a half
Favorite post-workout snack: Almond butter on toast or a spicy tuna roll with with brown rice from Whole Foods
Biggest pet peeve: When Ross leaves receipts or empty La Croix cans on the kitchen counter just inches from the trash can! I can live with that though. My actual biggest pet peeve is when people criticize others to build themselves up. A candle's flame doesn't get dimmer from lighting the flame of another. Build each other up!
Dream vacation spot: The beach. It doesn't really matter which one. My husband's parents have a house in Port Aransas, which is such a fun little Texas beach town with amazing seafood.
Favorite thing to do when you’re not teaching: Going out to dinner with Ross and getting cozy with Patti Mayonnaise!
Three words to describe you: Active, dedicated, easy going
Unusual child memory: When I was 2 or 3 my mom cut my hair really short due to an unfortunate trend started by a famous ice skater. I remember being at the playground one day and I overheard a kid's mom refer to me as "him" (the overalls probably weren't doing me any favors either). My mom let my hair grow out after that.
Personal fitness secret: It's about so much more than looking good! The time we take to exercise is also time for our minds to take a little break from all the other stuff we have going on. Yoga isn't the only exercise that can help us learn to be present. So focus on the moment you're in, even if it's during a tough workout. Let yourself really live in those 50 minutes!
