Two years ago, when I was 54 years old, I set a goal to be in the best shape ever by the time I was 55. It is a true ten, right….55 or at least that’s I how looked upon 55. I grew up a dancer and my major in college was dance, as this was always my passion. I had no doubt it would be my career until a major injury ended my dream. I have always worked out my adult life but I was looking for more than just my usual treadmill, biking and/or aerobic workout. I was missing the core strength I used to have and the awesomely toned muscles I use to display in my arms, legs and abs through my years of dance. My husband and I were moving back home to Dallas in late 2014 (from Houston and six years of traveling for my job) when I found Studio 6. I had heard about “barre” classes and due to my love of dance, I wanted to engage into this relatively new fitness class. After moving and getting settled in at the Heights of Park Lane, I was given a “free class” at Studio 6. While it was the Barre class that brought me to Studio 6, I soon fell in love with the Pilates classes. I do a regular mix of both classes weekly. I find each and every class is challenging because routines and moves are changed up so much. Even though I have been coming for close to two years, there isn’t anything boring about the classes. It’s the challenge that keeps bringing me back along with the amazing instructors. Not to mention that I have buns and guns back, well-defined muscles once again in my legs and core strength to no end. Wow! What a difference in how I feel and how strong I have become. The transformation to my body, though, is not my only testimonial. This past June, I was rushed to the emergency room at Baylor downtown from my doctor’s office, as my Neurologist thought I was having or already had a stroke. My whole left side was numb, my blood pressure was well over 250/140 and my heart rate 180-225. Thank goodness I didn’t have a stroke but through numerous tests it was found that my heart has a birth defect. I know the doctors at the hospital were amazed when they confirmed I had not had a stroke or heart attack. Later in following up with my Cardiologist, she blatantly said I should have stroked out and shouldn’t even be here but due to my heart and body being so strong, it saved me. So “Thank You” Studio 6 for making me strong. I know without a doubt, you truly saved my life.
