October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is diagnosed in over 220,000 women each year in the US. With one in eight of women being diagnosed, there’s a good chance this disease has touched your life in some way. October is about more than raising awareness and looking for a cure. It is about taking steps to prevent and detect breast cancer early. So, what can we do to prevent breast cancer or at the very least reduce our risk?
Working out helps everyone. Be strong for yourself and be strong for others. An active lifestyle promotes overall wellbeing for the body, mind and spirit - great weapons against disease.
An article in Time Magazine reports that recent studies show that active women have a 25% lower chance of developing breast cancer. Regular weekly exercise involving at least 2 ½ hours a week of moderate-intensity, like the Megaformer or even brisk walking has been shown to reduce your risk of breast cancer. Additionally, an NIH:National Cancer Institute report shows that regular exercise and a healthy diet are protective factors for certain types of cancer
